FDA stands for Food & Drug Administration and has approved the two drug (Ivermectin) and  (remdesivir) for adults and certain pediatric patients with COVID-19 who are sick enough to need hospitalization. Ivermectin, an FDA-approved anti-parasitic agent, was found to be an inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 replication in the laboratory.

Ivermectin may be effective for the treatment of early-onset mild COVID-19 in adult patients

Early viral clearance of SARS-CoV-2 was observed in ivermectin treated patients

Larger trials will be needed to confirm these preliminary findings

Originally, it was created as a possible treatment for hepatitis. In 2014, it was studied as a possible treatment for the Ebola virus. Since then, its effectiveness against other coronaviruses was studied as viruses emerged. Researchers found remdesivir to be effective against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) although research was only conducted in test tubes and on animals, not in human

Lets see how remdesivir is useful in covid-19

The drug prevents the virus from producing a particular enzyme that is necessary for the virus to replicate itself. Once this happens, the virus is no longer able to spread within the body.

Research shows that when patients with moderate COVID-19 receive remdesivir, their symptoms improve more quickly. The drug has also been shown to shorten the duration of patient hospital stays. Among severely ill COVID-19 patients, remdesivir has been associated with fewer deaths 

What is the actual dose of remdesivir ?

The dosage of the drug is through daily infusion for about ten days. At present, the drug has not been approved by health officials across the globe. Further, the drug was initially being used for Ebola, making the supply low. Many countries attempt to get access to the drug in the hopes of treating their COVID-19 patients
